Getting Geared Up for the Applied Ergonomics Conference 2017

The 2017 Applied Ergo Conference is set to run March 27 – 30, 2017 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando. Last year when we attended, we found this location was great and allowed our team to meet some leading ergonomists and others who value ergonomics.

Over the past decade, ergonomics has been brought to the forefront of concerns that businesses around the world face. Organizations have come to realize that there is a real need to focus on injury prevention and reducing workplace related fatigue. Darcor has been proud to help lead the charge by developing The Guide to Workplace Ergonomics, which specifically focuses on overexertion injuries that occur in the workplace.

As we prepare to attend AEC 2017, we’d like to share some of the speakers and workshops we are looking forward to:

Ergonomics and Return on Investment presented by Vince Baudo, CNA Insurance. This session covers barriers that safety professionals encounter while trying to implement ergonomic improvements and techniques to work with management to get project approvals.

Healthcare Facility Design: The Impact of Patient Care Ergonomics by Mary Willa Matz, Patient Care Ergonomic Solutions, LLC. This presentation covers the association between high risk patient handling tasks, necessary ergonomic interventions, and their impact on the design of the environment of care. At Darcor, we have focused on ergonomic solutions for the medical industry. Check out a few of our recent blog posts and the recent launch of our APL series caster series for the healthcare industry:

Ergonomics for the Changing Worker Demographics presented by Ranjana Mehta, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Texas A&M University and graduate faculty in the Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience. This intermediate/advanced level workshop focuses on how the prevalence of obesity in today’s society results in ergonomic consequences that organizations need to address. Darcor recently wrote a blog post on this very issue:

Darcor will also be taking part. If you are interested in finding out more about how casters can be used to support your organization’s ergonomic goals, you can visit us at booth #415. You can also check our our educational presentation, Ergonomic Casters: Design and In-Service Testing, which will be held in the Exhibit Hall on Wednesday, March 27 at 11 a.m. At this presentation, Lui Dilauro, Darcor’s Director of Ergonomics will talk about:

  • The science behind the design of ergonomic casters
  • The design and function of ergonomic casters on industrial carts
  • A recommended methodology for conducting similar real-world testing of casters and industrial carts
  • A case study review of a 4-year test program focusing on push-pull forces as conducted at a leading automobile transmission manufacturing facility

We look forward to seeing you at AEC 2017!
