| Darcor
and PacificSport play a role in supporting Vancouver’s
bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

What happens when you want to take one
of the world’s most exciting winter sport and
put it on pavement? You call Darcor, that’s what.
When the city of Nanaimo put on a multi-competition
event designed to promote the immensely popular ‘Extreme
Games’ feel often associated with West Coast sports,
PacificSport was provided with the venue to host an
unprecedented event - The Darcor Land Luge Competition.
Canadian National Team coaches and athletes were invited
to demonstrate the sport on a downtown course in a luge
competition that saw the largest crowd and most enthusiasm
over the two-day event.
The Problem: How do
you customize a traditional luge sled to glide on asphalt
while not compromising the speed and intense control
that is synonymous with this great Olympic event?

The
Darcor
Solution: The 65-XD neoprene wheel.
Shore Hardness: 62"A" Scale
An ideal solution for countless environments and applications,
Darcor’s 65-XD smooth-rolling wheel has an extraordinary
ability to silently roll over any number of obstacles
and floor litter without stopping, jarring or allowing
particles to embed in the tread. This challenge however,
lay in that the speeds would far exceed those normally
encountered by the wheel, the floor was a road, and
the cargo was a human being.
Once again, Darcor quality and innovation stepped up
to the podium. Darcor’s 65-XD even allowed the
athletes to effortlessly negotiate a sharp turn at the
end of a long downhill stretch in which racers reached
speeds in excess of a blurring 65 km/h.
“They were fabulous! They had
great bite,” said Drew Cooper, General Manager
of PacificSport-Vancouver Island of the 65-XD’s
performance.
“Without Darcor’s support,”
said Mr. Cooper, “we wouldn’t have been
able to put on the event”.
